May 14th, 2010Dog owners might have something to worry about. PUTTIN’ $1M BITE ON DOG ‘OWNER’. The New York Post has an interesting headline and article on the dog bite claims and cases.
The law certainly needs to change in New York and should require mandatory insurance for dog owners. If you must license dogs, insurance should be mandatory. The issue with many dog bite cases is that the owners many times do not have insurance. Additionally, owners of dogs with dangerous propensities such as pitbulls or Rotweilers who have been bred for centuries to be aggressive attack dogs should be required to obtain umbrella or excess insurance. Furthermore, I wouldn’t mind seeing the penal code have some teeth in the really egregious dog bite cases.
